Working Forest Initiative to be fast-tracked? Write and Phone ASAP!
The BC government may be moving to fast-track the implementation of their Working Forest proposal, an "Anti-Forest Protection Act" aimed at giving
"land base certainty" on our public lands to timber corporations
against new protected areas.
While earlier we received indications
that the Cabinet (Premier Gordon Campbell and the Ministers) was postponing
the Working Forest's implementation until the fall, it is possible that they'll push
it through this month. The Cabinet will meet throughout July, making right
now a very vulnerable time.
It is vitally important that everyone both PHONES and WRITES (hand written
is most effective, but email is OK) the following politicians ASAP, even if
you've already done so before. Be sure to include your address. Simply let
them know whether or not you:
- Want them to drop their "Working Forest" plans
- Don't want any barriers against the public's ability to protect more
forests
- Consider the Working Forest Initiative to be a key provincial election
issue, should the BC Liberals continue to pursue this agenda
